Mapping Materials and Dyes on Historic Tapestries Using Hyperspectral Imaging

چکیده

Hyperspectral imaging has emerged as a promising analytical method of artwork due to its potential in combining non-invasive capabilities and allowing the survey entire (or large area the) surface an artwork, which is highly significant application for historic tapestries. This project deployed high-resolution ClydeHSI Art Scanner, was used with both push-broom visible very-near infrared (VNIR; 400–1000 nm) near (NIR; 900–1700 hyperspectral cameras. Initial testing focused on characterisation mapping different materials tapestries (wool, silk, metal threads). To facilitate dye characterisation, collection wool silk samples dyed recipes based medieval practices used. The measured using system data collected formed external reference library including type natural dyes mordants during their production. outcomes on-site deployment this instrumentation analysis 16th century display at Hampton Court Palace will be discussed.

Hyperspectral Imaging of Fluorescent Dyes

Resonon utilizes line-scan spectral imaging, where a scene is limited to one dimension with a slit, and then imaged off a diffraction grating to obtain spectral information for each pixel along the slit. A second spatial dimension is obtained by scanning the object as multiple frames are collected. Here, electrophoresis was used as the scanning mechanism, as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2. Prot...

Pigment Mapping of the Scream (1893) Based on Hyperspectral Imaging

Hyperspectral imaging is a promising non-invasive method for applications in conservation of painting. With its ability to capture both spatial and spectral information which relates to physical characteristics of materials, the identification of pigments and its spatial distribution across the painting is now possible. In this work, The Scream (1893) by Edvard Munch is acquired using a hypersp...

Mapping colors from paintings to tapestries: rejuvenating the faded colors in tapestries based on colors in reference paintings

We addressed the problem of recovering or “rejuvenating” colors in a faded tapestry (the target image) by automatically mapping colors from digital images of the reference painting or cartoon (the source image). We divided the overall computational challenge into several subproblems, and implemented their solutions in Matlab: 1) quantizing the colors in both the tapestry and the referent painti...

Mapping Non-native Plants Using Hyperspectral Imagery

One of the significant threats to global biodiversity and ecosystem functioning is the spread of invasive plant species (Mooney and Cleland, 2001). Continuing anthropogenic related disturbances such as land conversion, grazing, and habitat fragmentation, combined with international trade and climate change indicate that these trends are likely to continue (Zedler and Scheid, 1988). In this cont...

Using UAV-Based Photogrammetry and Hyperspectral Imaging for Mapping Bark Beetle Damage at Tree-Level

Low-cost, miniaturized hyperspectral imaging technology is becoming available for small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) platforms. This technology can be efficient in carrying out small-area inspections of anomalous reflectance characteristics of trees at a very high level of detail. Increased frequency and intensity of insect induced forest disturbance has established a new demand for effective ...
